It's Not The Left Who Will Destroy Democracy – It’s Democracy That Will Destroy Itself

The title of a recent Substack article that was published on The Gateway Pundit claims that “The Left’s Lawfare Will Destroy American Democracy.” The writer went on to argue for a “a powerful response by those on the Right who wish to preserve our Constitution and the rule of law in their true, original meanings.” https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/01/lefts-lawfare-will-destroy-american-democracy/

This claim is frightening, not because of the threats to American Democracy, but because according to the “true, original meanings” of the Constitution, it did not establish a democracy. As originally formed, we were NOT a democracy. Democracies are dangerous and completely ill-equipped to protect personal security or the rights of property according to Madison, aka the Father and Chief Architect of our U.S. Constitution.

As I’ve written about on a number of occasions, Madison was very clear that our constitutional form of government was “strictly Republican,” and that our Constitution actually created a “compound republic” and NOT a democracy. Madison, The Federalist Papers, Ltr. 51, ¶9.

In fact, Madison went so far as to say that “[N]o other form,” including democracy, “would be reconcilable with the genius of the people of America; [and] with the fundamental principles of the Revolution;” Madison, The Federalist Papers, Letter 39, ¶2.

As I’ve noted many, many times, the word democracy or any derivation of it does not exist anywhere in our U.S. Constitution but it does mandate that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government.” US CONST. Art. IV, §4.

We have become a democracy because we stopped following the Constitution and started listening to the “experts” and changed the original structure laid out in the Constitution. There were two changes made to our Constitution that destroyed our “Compound Republic” and turned it into a democracy.

First, we wrested control of the Senate from the states with the 17th Amendment by giving the power of electing Senators to the mob, otherwise known as the 51% majority. Second, we took the power of the state to control Presidential Electors and made them a rubber stamp for the mob.

These two changes took the power of the states to control the national government and gave it over to the factious political parties through the majority rules principle of democracy. As such, the states have begun to fade away into powerlessness and insignificance as the border invasion illustrates better than anything else. The national government, on the other hand, has been consolidating power as it continues to expand and grow into the leviathan it is today.

The spectacle that we are witnessing today is the direct result of those changes. The Compound Republic that the Framers gave us in the Constitution was able to “break and control the violence of faction” but democracies cannot. Madison, The Federalist Papers, Ltr. 10, ¶1. Democracies, on the other hand, “have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention” that are “as short in their lives, as they have been violent in the deaths.” Id. at ¶12.

The writer of the article is worried that the Left’s lawfare will destroy American Democracy but according to Madison, democracy is prone to violence, unable to control it, and will eventually die a violent death.

Democracy is the real threat to our nation, and the ONLY solution is to return the power back to the states thereby wresting control from the political parties who now control everything . . .  including the “turbulence and contention.”
